Driver Uninstallation Proceedure - 2K/XP ======================================== NOTE: Applies to Serial and Parallel PCI and EtherSerial Products. 1. Right click on "My Computer", then choose properties. My Computer can be either located on the desktop or under the start menu depending on whether it is 2000 or XP. 2. The "System Properties" window will open. Click on the "Hardware" tab, then the "Device Manager" button. 3. Click on the plus ("+") besides "Ports (COM & LPT)". Below that you should see the Lava devices which are installed on your system. NOTE: If you have a heading called "Multifunction Adapters" then click on the plus ("+") besides that first to see if there are any Lava devices installed under that heading. If so, you will want to uninstall those first using the instructions in step 4. 4. Right click on the Lava device you wish to remove and choose "Uninstall". You will then be required to confirm the device removal, so click "OK". If there is more Lava devices listed uninstall them as well. 5. Close the "Device Manager" and "System Properties" window. 6. Double click on "My Computer", then double click on the C drive "C:". Now double click on the windows directory. This may be called "WINDOWS" or "WINNT" depending on which version of windows you are running. You may need to click on show files to display the directories contents. 7. Look to see if you can see a directory called "inf", if so, double click on it and go to step 9. 8. If you do not see the directory "inf", you will need to change the folder options. To do this, at the top of the window click on "Tools", followed by "Folder Options...". In the "Folder Options" window, click on the "View" tab. In the "Advanced settings:" box click on the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button, then click on "OK". Now you should see the "inf" folder. Double click on it to go into the "inf" directory. 9. We will now need to change to the details view. To do this, click on "View", then "Details". Also, we will need the files listed in alphabetical order. Do this by clicking on "View", then choose "Arrange Icons By", then select "Name". 10. Try to find the files by the names of "lavaosp.inf", "lavaomf.inf", "lava650.inf", "lserial.inf", "serimpsw.inf". Depending on your settings in windows you may not see the ".inf" file extension. You may not have any of these files, but if you do, delete them, and their ".PNF" partners. 11. Now find the files called "oemX.inf". The "X" will be replaced by a number (example: oem3.inf). Again, depending on your setting you may not see the ".inf" file extension. 12. Look through this list of "oemX.inf" files and see if in the "Size" column, there are any which are "0 KB" in size. You will also notice that these files will not have a accompanying ".PNF" file to go along with them. When you do find one that is "0 KB", delete it. These particular files are drivers that were partially installed and are non-functioning. These may have been created by not only a Lava driver install, but any driver install which has ever occurred on your system. Failing to remove these files may cause issues with future driver installs on your computer. This is a good general system housekeeping step and is not required as part of the Lava driver uninstall proceedure. NOTE: Accidentally deleting "oemX.inf" files which are not "0 KB" during this step may result in destruction of other hardware driver installations currently in the system. 13. Starting at the largest oem file number, double click on the ".inf" file, it will open in notepad. Check to see if approximately 5 lines down from the top you see a statement something along the lines of "; (c) Copyright xxxx Lava Computer MFG Inc.". Now close notepad. If you seen that line in the file delete both that ".inf" file and the accompanying ".PNF" file. Now repeat this step for each oem number file you have until you have checked them all. 14. At this point all of the drivers are removed from the system. You can now shutdown and remove the card if applicable, or reinstall the device.
