INSTRUCTIONS TO INSTALL THE DSERIAL-PCI CARD IN WINDOWS NT WITHOUT DRIVERS Follow these instructions when the drivers won't load normally. Usually, in this situation "detectlava" won't start during installation and you will see a message to the effect that there is an "Invalid Directory." 1) First boot up without our card in the system. 2) Make sure none of our ports show up in our applet. If they do, then remove them first from there and then from NT's applet. 3) Once it's clean then perform the following clean-up: Uninstall our old driver: i) Remove the following files from your hard drive: detlava.sys and seriallava.sys from winnt\system32\drivers lavaport.cpl from winnt\system32\ ii) Clean the registry Use Regedt32 because regedit doesn't let you change security priveleges. Go to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root Change Security Priveleges to Full Access for LEGACY_DETECTLAVA and LEGACY_SERIALLAVA by going to the Security Menu and then Permissions and set Type of Access to Full Control while each folder and subfolder is highlighted. After this is done remove LEGACY_DETECTLAVA and LEGACY_SERIALLAVA Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services Remove DetectLava and SerialLava Folders. You do not have to change security priveleges for these folders because they are already set at Full Control. 4) Shut down and put the Lava card back in the machine. 5) Boot from your DOS boot. 6) Run lavaconf.exe from the Lava Installation and Utilities disk. 7) Write down what lavaconf reports. 8) ReBoot into NT. 9) Go to Control Panel Ports. 10) Add the ports and configure them to the I/O addresses and IRQ that lavaconf gave you. 11) Configure by clicking settings then advanced.
